John SEERY
John Seery was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1941. He studied at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, from 1959 to 1963, at the Cincinnati Art Academy in 1963 and, then, at Ohio State University in Columbus from 1963 to 1964. In 1964 the artist relocated to New York and held his first solo exhibition with the prestigious André Emmerich Gallery in 1970. He held further shows between 1972 and 1977 and exhibited with Galerie André Emmerich in Zürich in 1975. Seery showed with the Richard Gray Gallery in Chicago from 1971 to 1981, with the Peter Noser Galerie in Zürich in 1982 and 1986 and, most recently, at the Kunsthaus Richterswil in Switzerland in 1997–1998. Seery was included in 10 Americans at Gallery A in Sydney in 1972, with a solo exhibition at the same venue in early 1974. He remained in New York throughout the 1970s, moving to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in 1978, where he took up a position as associate professor at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and was a visiting lecturer at Harvard University in the 1980s. In 1990, Seery moved to Hawai’i where he now lives and works.
