Bed time makes the leap from the exploratory bedroom interior, Van Gogh’s room, to a more fully realised, personal response. In this room there are traces of a human presence; the tousled sheets and pillows, and the glorious deep rose-red slippers awaiting their wearer. The colours of this work were carefully chosen to suggest a restful mood.  This work, like sketchbook drawings of illuminated doorways, is the forerunner of the artist’s profound interest in domestic spaces transformed by luminosity.
