Lambert in London (1913–1921)

In 1913, Lambert moved to a larger home at 25 Glebe Place, Chelsea.

This had an impact on Lambert’s art, as his studio there had a flatter and more direct light. This revived his student love of the great Italian masters Botticelli and Giorgione and his interest in painting works which would look good in any light. He began to use a higher-key palette and dryer-textured paint, creating images with a lighter coloured background.
