a red, hot work with burnt umber and swirls of white pastel across the throbbing surface – through this a form, almost like the head of a feral cat emerges

either side barely visible are two shapes derived from mutton bird skulls found at Bawley Point, South Coast, NSW a baler shell is hidden within the bottom section of the canvas

The title is from the name of one of Herbie Hancock’s albums, ironic, twisting the notion of the exotic ‘other’ as savage/cannibal/dangerous

the artist and the animal/cat as headhunter/collectors of imagery, found objects and ideas
