Christened George Frederick Ernest Albert (1865–1936), the Duke was the second son of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, and a grandson of Queen Victoria. Following the unexpected death of his elder brother Albert in 1892, and his father in May 1910, he reigned as King George V for 26 years.
