Win an exclusive Tom Roberts
experience for your class
With the support of ActewAGL and Icon Water, the National Gallery of Australia is pleased to offer local schools a special opportunity in 2016 to see the work of legendary Australian artist Tom Roberts.
This exhibition features many of Roberts’ best loved works, capturing key moments in Australian history and identity. Roberts’ paintings are populated by an intriguing cast of characters, beautiful landscapes and many fascinating national stories. The exhibition is filled with opportunities for learning and inspiration across many parts of the Australian Curriculum. Students can also immerse themselves in Tom’s Studio, a creative space in which to rediscover aspects of Australian life in the 1890s.
As part of our commitment to local schools, one primary school and one secondary school class from the ACT / Queanbeyan region will be selected for a unique experience of Tom Roberts on Monday 21 March 2016. This prize includes the following:
- Welcome from the NGA’s Deputy Director
- Private access to the Tom Roberts exhibition between 9.00 and 10.00am
- NGA Educator-led tours of the exhibition, including Tom’s Studio
- Morning tea provided in the Sculpture Garden
- Bus transportation to and from school
To be eligible, classes should answer the following question in 200 words or less: ‘What would an ideal visit to the National Gallery of Australia look like for your class, and why?’ Email your answer to publicprograms@nga.gov.au, along with contact details for the teacher and school, by Friday 19 February 2016. A winner will be selected by the NGA’s Learning and Access team on Monday 22 February 2016.
Don’t forget, Tom Roberts takes place during an exciting period of change at the NGA, including a large-scale rehang of almost every work of art. Australian art takes pride of place in a new location. We look forward to helping teachers and students to rediscover the NGA!
