Premium Sundays

Come to the Gallery on Sunday mornings at 9.00 am, before the exhibition opens to the weekend crowds. Premium Sundays with exhibition curator Dr Robert Bell, exhibition assistant Simeran Maxwell and voluntary guides provide the perfect opportunity to relax, enjoy and ask questions about the many spectacular costumes and accessories on display in the exhibition.

Due to popular demand two new Premium Sunday's added.

Audio tours

Exhibition audio tours are available for both adults and children. Works in the exhibition that have audio commentary are clearly marked with audio tour symbols. In addition to individual audio players, there is also the option for two people to operate a shared player with two headsets.

Family Activity Room

10.15 am – 2.45 pm weekdays
10.15 am – 4.45 pm weekends and public holidays

Located within the exhibition, activities in the Family Activity Room are designed for children aged 3–12 and their families. Drawn from the exhibition, children explore design elements such as line, colour, shape, pattern and movement with a variety of hands-on activities such as drawing, puzzles, dressing up and building.

The family activity room is free of charge after exhibition entry and pre-booking is not required.

An audio tour and exhibition trail for children are also available.

On the south side of Lake Burley Griffin, the Gallery is adjacent to the High Court and The National Portrait Gallery, walking distance from the National Library and Old Parliament House.

Parking

At peak times please be aware that it may be difficult locating a parking space.

The National Gallery has two car parks.

• Underground (off Parkes Place) opens at 9.50 am and has a 3 hour limit.
  
• Above ground (off Bowen Drive)
  opens at 9.45 am and has no time limit. Access to the Gallery from this car park is via the Sculpture Garden.
  
• Accessible parking for people with limited mobility is available in both NGA car parks. Assisted lift access to the Gallery is available from the underground car park off Parkes Place.

Catch the bus

Catching the bus is recommended due to limited parking. The closest bus stop to the National Gallery is only a 5-minute walk away. For additional details call the ACT bus Customer Service Centre on 131710 or visit action.act.gov.au

Walking / Cycling

From the city to the Gallery will take approx. 30 minutes walking or 10 minutes cycling. A walk from the Bus Depot Markets car park (available Mon-Sat) will take 20 minutes (see map below).
