Learning resource John Constable, one of the greatest British landscape painters, was born in 1776 and died in 1837. The exhibition Constable: impressions of land, sea and sky traces his development as an artist; demonstrates his close bond with the English countryside, where he was born and raised; and, most importantly, examines the unique way Constable worked. The role of sketching from nature and how his constant reference to these sketches enabled him to capture light, movement and atmospheric conditions in his finished works is examined in depth in this education resource. The learning resource has been designed to prepare students for a visit to the exhibition. It contains:
