A large yellow and red demon or deity is flanked by two smaller ones. Their facial features were composed from black and white feathers. Manufacture of such panels was painstaking and difficult, as feathers were individually knotted onto strings, then sewn in layers onto woven cotton. Large feather works such as this were used as tabards, wall hangings or standards. Iridescent feathers from macaws and other parrots were luxury goods reserved for the elite.
