The band, disc and ornament were found in a wicker basket together with many crowns. The hoard was discovered in the eastern tomb at Huaca Loro, at the Sicán religious complex of Batán Grande. The band and disc probably belonged to a standard or banner. When carried in procession, the standard shone and jangled because of its pendant discs. The crown ornament or finial is topped by a gold ball which rotates. Its shaft is flanked by six animal heads with pendants for tongues.
