In connection with the exhibition Turner from the Tate the National Gallery of Australia presents the following inspired performances.

Australia World Orchestra
Hindemith Quintet performance

Saturday 20 July  6:30 - 8:00 pm

The Australian World Orchestra in association with the Goethe Institut presents five of Europe's most acclaimed wind players, the Hindemith Quintet. Wally Hase (flute), Nick Deutsch (oboe), Thorsten Johanns (clarinet), Ole Christian Dahl (bassoon) and Saar Berger (horn). $55, $52 concession, $50 member, $20 student (includes refreshments)

Journey through time with Turner and his contemporaries; from Anton Reicha's Wind Quintet op.88, written the same year as Turner's The Field of Waterloo to the experimentalists Grainger, Ligeti and John Cage, and culminating in Stravinsky's revolutionary masterpiece The Rite of Spring, 100 years after its premier in Paris in 1913.

Turner and the sublime

Saturday 27 July 2:30 pm - 4.00 pm

Ambre Hammond concert pianist and watercolourist Tony Smibert presents Chopin, Debussy, Piazzolla and Gershwin, followed by a performance exploring the sublime aesthetic with Tony Smibert, master watercolourist and Visiting Artist Researcher, Tate Britain.
