Cancellation policy

All alterations or cancellations to your registration must be made in writing via e-mail. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt then in return. Notification should be sent to: nvaec@nga.gov.au

An administration charge of $50 will be made to any participant cancelling after 31 December and up to 14 January 2014. After 14 January any cancellations received will be required to pay full registration fees.

Bookings for the National Visual Art Education Conference will close by COB on Monday 13 January – unless booked out earlier.

NOTE: this includes cancellations of registrations and conference dinner and workshops. However, if you are unable to attend, substitutes are welcome at no additional cost.

Travel time from the airport:

Travel time from Canberra airport to the National Gallery of Australia is approximately 20 min, however it is advised to allow at least 30 minutes for the trip.

How can I get to the Conference from the airport?

Taxi is the most convenient way to get from the airport to the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. Taxi information can be found on our transport pages.

Canberra does have a bus service that stops near the National Gallery.

What car rental options are available?

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz & Thrifty car companies are all represented at the Canberra airport.

What car parking is available for the conference?

Undercover car parking is available at the National Gallery of Australia. For more information please go to our transport pages.

How do I get a taxi from the Gallery?

Staff at the Front Desk of the National Gallery can assist delegates in getting a taxi. There is a taxi rank at the front of the Gallery.

Where is the nearest public bus stop?

The closest bus stop to the National Gallery on the ACTION bus routes listed below is Kings Avenue/National Circuit, only a short 5-minute walk from the Gallery. Phone 13 17 10

What kind of food is provided at the conference and what if I have special dietary requirements?

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be supplied throughout the duration of the conference. This is included in your conference registration fee. A conference dinner planned for Wednesday 22 January is an optional addition when you register. Every effort will be made to ensure delegates with special needs are catered for. Should you require any special assistance or catering, please give details when registering or email nvaec@nga.gov.au

Are eftpos facilities available?

Yes, a cash machine is located next to the Cloak Room, ground floor at the National Gallery of Australia.

Where are the closest facilities (chemist, supermarket, local restaurant)?

This depends on where you are staying. The closest suburbs to both Galleries are Manuka and Kingston. Both of these suburbs have amenities including a supermarket, chemist and many restaurants to choose from. Alternatively if you plan to stay in Canberra city, these amenities are also located in the mall.

Is there internet access?

The National Gallery of Australia has Wi-Fi in numerous parts of the building including the James O Fairfax Theatre and Gandel Hall.

Please check with your hotel for internet access at individual accommodation options.

Are there smoking areas at the conference location?

The Parliamentary triangle, in which the National Gallery is situated, has a smoke free policy. Smoking is not permitted inside or outside the Galleries or in car parks.

How can I be contacted during the conference?

You are welcome to bring your mobile device to the Conference. As a courtesy to speakers, delegates and requested to switch off mobile phones during sessions and in the Gallery exhibition spaces.

Can I take photographs at the Conference?

No.  As a courtesy to speakers we ask that delegates do not take photos during the sessions. Photography is not allowed in the Gallery spaces.

Photographs can be taken around the Galleries in the outdoor spaces. Photographs can also be taken inside Gandel Hall, the site for the Conference dinner, meal breaks and some parallel sessions

Will the conference keynote be recorded?

Some sessions will be recorded. Please check the website closer to the date for further information.

How do I get a copy of my registration invoice?

Please nvaec@nga.gov.au to request a copy of your registration invoice.

If I am unable to attend – Will you refund my fees? What is the cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend the Conference, and are unable to transfer your registration to another person, you may request a refund of your Conference registration fee. You need to send us a written request via email. The amount you are refunded will depend upon the date we receive your request. If you register for the Conference and do not turn up, or do not contact us, then we are unable to issue a refund.

Can I transfer my Conference fees to my colleague, as I cannot attend the Conference?

Attendee substitutions are allowed, but notification must be made in writing via email. Registrants who fail to attend the Conference and do not notify Conference committee are responsible for full payment.

Are there any discounts or scholarships available?

An early bird rate is available. The closing date for early bird registrations is 15 December.

Is this an Accredited Program for professional development?

The National Gallery of Australia is a Recognised Provider of Professional Learning with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute. All participants of the National Visual Art Education Conference will receive a Certificate of Attendance statement which may be used for logging professional development hours with teacher registration and standards boards.

Who are the organisers of the Conference?

The conference is organised by staff in the Learning and Access Department at the National Gallery of Australia.

Can family/friends attend the extra activities or workshops?

Yes, of course you may. Conference dinner and Welcome reception attendance for non-participants may also be ordered through the registration process. If you have already registered and wish to add these on at a later date, please email the conference organiser at nvaec@nga.gov.au
