Rosemarie Castoro

Rosemarie Castoro was born in Brooklyn, New York, on 1 March 1939. She was awarded a Museum of Modern Art painting scholarship in 1954, and then studied at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, where she gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction in 1963. Castoro’s first solo show in 1973 was held at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery, New York, while in the same year she received a Guggenheim fellowship. Her other awards include the National Endowment Arts Grant in 1974 and 1984 and a Pollock-Krasner Grant in 1989 and 1997. She has taught painting and sculpture at several colleges, including Hunter College, New York, in 1972; California State University, Fresno, in 1973, and the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1977. From1979 Castoro was represented by Hal Bromm Gallery, New York, and exhibited regularly at Arnaud Lefebvre in Paris from 1983. Castoro died in New York in 2015.
